For both Zane and Darby, their small town roots hold a terrible secret. Now, decades later, they've come together to build a new life. But will the past set them free or pull them under?

Zane Bigelow grew up in a beautiful, perfectly kept house in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains. Strangers and even Zane’s own aunt across the lake see his parents as a successful surgeon and his stylish wife, making appearances at their children’s ballet recitals and baseball games. Only Zane and his sister know the truth, until one brutal night finally reveals cracks in the facade, and Zane escapes for college without a thought of looking back...

Years later, Zane returns to his hometown determined to reconnect with the place and people that mean so much to him, despite the painful memories. As he resumes life in the colorful town, he meets a gifted landscape artist named Darby, who is on the run from ghosts of her own.

Together they will have to teach each other what it means to face the past, and stand up for the ones they love.

Not one of my favorite from Nora Roberts. Way too predictable. I don’t recommend spending the money on this one.

Nora Roberts has always been one of my favorite authors. I love getting one of her books and curling up for a good read! However, this was not her best work. I loved the bantering between the main love interests. It was funny and fresh. What I didn’t think worked was the three stories into one. I think each story could have been a book by itself with more interesting plot twists. I found this book rather predictable in the plot. I also thought that giving us 3 story lines of abuse and violence was a bit overkill.

Another good read from Nora Roberts. Strong characters wonderful hero and heroine. A real page turner. I couldn’t put it down finished it in under three days. It had everything a good book should. Drama, comedy, romance, crazy evil villains, a murder or two. And a happily ever after. Five stars!

I loved this book! It took me on a journey. I felt at times, that I was actually there, smelling the flowers. The voice that comes out is authentic and believable. The novel is amazingly well thought out and I couldn’t put it down.

I loved this book, and could hardly put it down. Her character development was such that I couldn’t decide on a favorite. The plot, while sometimes a bit predictable (which I actually love in her books), did have many twists and turns. There was heart break, tears, anger and laughter. I’ll be reading this again! Thanks Nora for a great read! Cindy Demme

Not worth the price tag at the moment. Classic NR plot— can see the ending from a mile away. Enjoyed as a lazy day read.

Too predictable on all “stories” - wish I had waited to read from library or in paperback. No good plot twists from author since Whiskey Beach. No longer on my must read list for new releases.
